Wilmington Sedation Dentistry

Stay Calm and Safe

with Sedation Dentistry

At Myrtle Grove Implant and Family Dentistry, we understand that some patients suffer from dental phobia or anxiety. As part of our commitment to compassionate dental care, we offer sedation options to keep you and your loved ones calm and safe during treatment. Whether you’re feeling nervous about a small procedure or you’re undergoing a full cosmetic makeover, we have options that will work for you!

Enjoy a Stress-Free Visit

with “Laughing Gas”

If you experience anxiety and dental phobia, Dr. Graves may suggest laughing gas to keep you safe and calm. When this sedative takes effect, you will feel euphoric and relaxed. You’ll be awake and able to respond to Dr. Graves during your procedure, but you’ll be calm and stress-free. Laughing gas wears off quickly, so you’ll able to drive yourself home and enjoy the rest of your day as you normally would after your treatment.

Avoid Pain and Anxiety

with IV Sedation

For patients undergoing extensive treatment or for those who have higher levels of anxiety during dental appointments, we offer IV sedation to help you avoid pain and relieve stress. Dr. Graves completed his IV Sedation Residency at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, so you can rest assured that your treatment will be safe and comfortable when you are at Myrtle Grove Implant and Family Dentistry.

How it Can Help

The Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry at Myrtle Grove Implant and Family Dentistry has a number of benefits, which make it a great option for you if you’re nervous about an upcoming appointment with Dr. Nathan Graves.

  • Eliminate pain and discomfort – Sedation allows you to eliminate any risk of feeling pain or discomfort during your appointment, so it’s ideal if you have dental anxiety, or you’re worried about an upcoming oral surgery or other procedure.
  • Stay comfortable for long procedures – If you have difficulties sitting still for long periods of time, sedation dentistry can help you stay comfortable. This is great if you are having multiple, complex oral surgeries or treatments at Myrtle Grove Implant and Family Dentistry.
  • Get back to your day-to-day routine with laughing gas– Laughing gas helps eliminate pain and anxiety, and is a very mild sedative that wears off in about 5 minutes without any major side effects. After sedation with laughing gas, you can get back to your regular life, and even drive yourself home from the dentist.
  • Sleep through your appointment with IV sedation – IV sedation is the most powerful sedative treatment we offer. Because of this, it is recommended that you arrange for someone else to drive you to and from your appointment when utilizing IV sedation. Dr. Graves will use an IV to administer a carefully-controlled dose of sedative medication, allowing you to sleep soundly throughout your appointment. Most patients don’t remember a thing!

Is Sedation Right for me?

Good Candidates for Sedation

There are a variety of reasons to consider sedation dentistry. If you have dental anxiety that prevents you from seeing the dentist regularly, or you are just a bit nervous about a dental procedure or surgery like a tooth extraction, sedation can help you feel more comfortable during treatment. Patients with a strong gag reflex can benefit from sedation, as it helps suppress the reflex, making it easier for Dr. Graves to work on the rear teeth. If you are afraid of needles, sedation can help you feel more comfortable during the numbing process.

As long as you are healthy and not taking any medications that may interfere with the sedation options we offer at Myrtle Grove Implant and Family Dentistry, we can provide you with professional sedation dentistry services. We even treat children, ensuring your entire family gets the care they need to maintain a healthy smile.

Because we are dedicated to your safety at Myrtle Grove Implant and Family Dentistry, before you can be sedated, we ask that you share a complete medical history with us. Issues like chronic respiratory disease, sleep apnea, allergies to barbiturate medications, and other such conditions may prevent you from being sedated. In addition, sedation is not recommended for pregnant mothers at any stage of pregnancy.
