What Are Dental Implants?

Modern dental implants are designed to mimic the function of a natural tooth root. Their size and shape fit perfectly into the jawbone, just like a natural tooth would. The majority of implants are still made of titanium, but some are made of ceramic to match the color of your teeth at the gum line.

Traditional implants are only slightly larger than an anatomical tooth root. There are now "mini" implant options available as well. A mini implant is approximately one-third the size of a traditional implant, allowing it to be placed in areas where space or bone is limited.

Types of Implants

Depending on the number of missing teeth, our most popular implant restorations include:

Individual Dental Implants with Crown – If you are missing a single tooth or if your missing teeth are spaced throughout your mouth, individual dental implants are combined with single porcelain crowns to replace missing teeth.

Implant Bridges – Maybe you need to replace several missing teeth in a row. Previously, you would have worn a removable partial denture. Instead, we can use two or three implants to support a permanent bridge without affecting neighboring teeth.

All-on-4 – An implant-retained prosthesis, All-on-4 implants replace all of your teeth at once. All-on-4 implants are permanently anchored in your mouth, so there are no removable “plates” to worry about. They’re also more streamlined and comfortable than full dentures.

Thinking About Getting Implants?

Dental implants have the potential to improve your quality of life, not to mention the appearance of your smile. The only way to find out if dental implants are right for you is to meet with Dr. Graves one-on-one for an evaluation.
